Two weeks ago, thirty inches of snow fell and it seemed as if winter still had a secure grip on the region. Now, two weeks later, most of the snow has melted away, save for the huge mountains that remain, plowed up and the perimeters of parking lots. Nevertheless, the first blossoms of spring have finally arrived. As soon as the snow cover receded, crocus shoots emerged. Spring peepers are making themselves heard in the wetlands and flooded meadows.
